Volksoper Wien (Vienna People’s Opera House) is the second best known opera house in Vienna after the world-famous Vienna State Opera (both operas belong to the state-owned Bundestheater Holding).
Volksoper building is situated in Währinger Strasse, very close to Währinger Gürtel (part of the Gürtel Street) and Währinger Strasse – Volksoper Metro Station. Other streets near Volksoper include Schlagergasse and Bleichergasse. Through Währinger Strasse, Volksoper has direct tram connection to Schottentor Station in Vienna Inner City (4 tram stops).
This part of Vienna does not offer many accommodation options. There are a few hotels directly in Währinger Strasse, but in most cases you need to walk a bit closer to the inner city. There are also hotels on the Gürtel, but again, most of them are located further to the south (e.g. near Alser Strasse or Josefstädter Strasse U6 stations). Outside the Inner City, a very popular and traditional hotel location is Mariahilfer Strasse, also easy to reach from Volksoper by metro (line U6 from Währinger Strasse – Volksoper Station to Westbahnhof).
