Westbahnhof and Karlsplatz Locations

Westbahnhof (West Train Station) is located at Europaplatz in the western part of Vienna. It is directly on the Gürtel, close to its intersection with Mariahilfer Strasse.

Karlsplatz (Charles Square) is a big square on the southern edge of Vienna Inner City, not far from Vienna State Opera. Its characteristic landmark is Karlskirche (Charles Church).

Getting from Westbahnhof to Karlsplatz by U-Bahn

The best way how to get from Westbahnhof to Karlsplatz is the metro, called U-Bahn in Vienna. It is only 5 stops, with 1 interchange on the way.

From Westbahnhof take metro line U3 in direction to inner city and Simmering. Then you have two options:

Change to line U2 at Volkstheater Station, 3 stops from Westbahnhof. Karlsplatz is the terminus of line U2, 2 stops from Volkstheater.

Alternatively, change to line U1 at Stephansplatz, 4 stops from Westbahnhof. Take only 1 stop on U1 and get off at Karlsplatz Station.

Karlsplatz Station

Be careful not to get lost when exiting the metro at Karlsplatz. It is the biggest U-Bahn station in Vienna and 3 lines cross here. You can exit the station in two directions: One exit is on Ringstrasse, directly in front of Vienna State Opera (nice to see, but not the best way to Karlsplatz). The other exit is directly at Karlsplatz (square). There is a long underpass between the opera and Karlsplatz (it takes about 5 minutes to walk).
