The train station Vienna-Spittelau (Bahnhof Wien-Spittelau) is located in the northern part of Vienna near Gürtelbrücke (where the Gürtel Street crosses the Donaukanal). It is a busy railway station, particularly for local and medium distance train traffic. Spittelau Station is also the interchange of U-Bahn (metro) lines U4 and U6. Though Spittelau is located outside the Inner City, you can quickly get there using the U-Bahn. Important buildings near Wien Spittelau Station include Vienna Economic University (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien) and Fernwärme Wien (the icinerator designed by Hundertwasser).
The concentration of hotels close to Spittelau Station is considerably lower than in the Inner City. You can find a few hotels just next to the station and some more in the nearby districts Wien Döbling and Wien Alsergrund.
For more accommodation options, try going a few stations along the metro line U4 towards the Inner City. There are many hotels of various price and quality categories in places such as Schottenring (3 stops from Spittelau Station) or Schwedenplatz (4 stops). On line U6, Westbahnhof Station is probably the best hotel location (8 metro stops, about 15 minutes from Spittelau Station).
Due to the limited hotel capacity near Wien Spittelau Station, it is strongly recommended to book accommodation well in advance. In Vienna Inner City, where the number of hotels is much higher, booking in advance is still advisable, especially during the peak tourist season and around holidays.
