Spittelau Station is the interchange of metro lines U4 and U6, located in the north part of Vienna, near the building of Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Vienna Economic University) and the Donaukanal. Besides an U-Bahn hub, Spittelau is also a railway station, serving mainly S-Bahn and other reginal trains. Spittelau is not a typical tourist location in Vienna, therefore accommodation options are limited here.
Compared to Vienna Inner City, many streets and areas near Spittelau Station, are quieter and more peaceful. If you are coming to Vienna mainly for sightseeing and culture, this location might be less central than you’d like. Nevertheless, public transport network is excellent in Vienna and it is easy to get to the Inner City in a few minutes (usually around 10). The fastest way how to get from Spittelau Station to the Inner City is by U-Bahn line U4: 3 stops to Schottenring Station.
If you are looking for another hotel location closer to the very centre of Vienna, Schottenring Station is a good choice. Many good hotels can be found also near the next station on U4 line, Schwedenplatz. On U-Bahn line U6, a popular hotel destination is Westbahnhof / Mariahilfer Strasse (8 stops from Spittelau Station, about 15 minutes).
It is highly recommended to book your hotel at least a few weeks in advance, especially when you are coming in the summer season or around major holiday or cultural events. Most Vienna hotels allow guests to change or cancel their booking free of charge up to 1-3 days prior to arrival.
