Herrengasse Station on U-Bahn line U3 is the closest station to the Imperial Palace, Hofburg. It is located at the junction of Herrengasse and Fahnengasse behind the Imperial Palace northern section, just a few steps from the famous Spanish Riding School (Spanische Hofreitschule). Other nearby landmarks include Michaelerkirche (at Michaelerplatz) and Minoritenkirche (at Minoritenplatz). Other streets near Herrengasse Station are Wallnerstrasse, Landhausgasse, and Schauflergasse. Nevertheless, these are only the closest places (within 2 minutes walk); the concentration of landmarks, churches, and little narrow streets in Vienna Inner City is very high and distances are short.
Also the concentration of hotels is fairly high. Most hotels near Herrengasse are in the upper quality and price categories (mostly 4 star and 5 star hotels). The area around Herrengasse Station and Hofburg is mainly a tourist district and accommodation demand fluctuates during the year. It is at its highest in the summer season (June to early September), but Vienna is also busy before Christmas (thanks to its famous christmas markets) and on several public holidays and other occasions during the year. It is highly recommended to book accommodation well in advance, especially when you are less flexible with dates of your visit to Vienna.
