Danube Island, as its name suggests, is an island in the middle of the Danube River in Vienna – or to be precise, an island between the Danube River itself and New Danube. The island is more than 21 km long, but very narrow (mostly 100-200 metres). Danube Island is a popular place for jogging, cycling, roller skating, and also a venue of various festivals and events (e.g. Donauinselfest). The most convenient access point to Danube Island is Donauinsel Metro Station on line U1 – but as a pedestrian you don’t need to take the metro to get to Donauinsel here – you can walk on the Reichsbrücke (Empire Bridge).
There are no hotels directly on Donauinsel and only a few hotels along the banks of the river. Unlike in most other cities, the Danube River in Vienna flows sligtly outside the city centre. Most hotels with good access to Donauinsel are situated on both sides of the Danube near Reichsbrücke and the metro line U1. On one side, there are several hotels near Vienna International Center (UNO City) and Kaisermühlen/VIC Station. On the other bank of the river, there are many hotels around Praterstern Train Station and Prater Amusement Park.
