Rathausplatz, the area in front of Vienna City Hall, is again the place where interesting things happen in Vienna. Only a few weeks after the end of Christmas markets the square changes to a large ice skating ring, an attraction for people of all ages. Ice skating with music, people, and some of the most beautiful Viennese buildings around offers a wonderful experience.
Wiener Eistraum or Vienna Ice Dream starts on 21 January 2010 with opening ceremony at 7pm. The 5,400 square-metre ice skating ring will then be available for public every day between 9am to 11pm from 22 January to 7 March. Ice skates will be available for hire.
Besides the main ice skating ring, you can also skate along the 415 metre long ice skating trail through the Rathauspark, or try one of the six curling rings. Refreshments will be available at the stands at Rathausplatz.
You can get to Rathausplatz by tram or metro. Nearby U-Bahn stations are Rathaus (U2 line) and Volkstheater (U2 and U3).
