Theater an der Wien is one of the oldest theatres in Vienna. The word “Wien” in its name does not refer to the city, but to the Vienna (Wien) River. Theater an der Wien is located at the corner of Linke Wienzeile and Millöckergasse (a small side street), close to Getreidemarkt and Karlsplatz. Other interesting places and landmarks near Theater an der Wien include Naschmarkt (the famous open-air market) and Wiener Secession (a modern art museum).
Although the concentration of hotels around Theater an der Wien is not as high as in Innere Stadt, there are many good hotels scattered in nearby streets. Good streets for accommodation include Linke Wienzeile (the main street) and Schikanedergasse. There is also one hotel in Papagenogasse (the 4 star Best Western Hotel Beethoven), just around the corner from the theatre.
There are many hotels at and around Karlsplatz, one of Vienna’s largest squares, located only 3 minutes walk from Theater an der Wien. A traditional hotel address is also Kärntner Strasse, although in this street most hotels (typically 4 or 5 star hotels) are quite highly priced. There are also many hotels on Ringstrasse, about 5-7 minutes walk from Theater an der Wien.
